Architects inspire us everyday to build progress for people and the planet.
At the 2021 Venice Architecture biennale, we gave the floor to innovative and inspiring architects in a video series called ‘Building Conversations’. In this project, twelve prominent professionals —including Biennale curator Hashim Sarkis, Lina Ghotmeh, Benedetta Tagliabue — share their vision on architecture and its latest trends. All the videos were also presented in dedicated articles on the magazine Designboom.
when we are talking about landscape we are not talking about nature because it doesn't exist anymore in europe and so we are talking about cultural landscapes the question was very simple how will we live together but who do you mean with we for us v means we are many more than only human beings so it's really the landscape and all the animals plants and the rocks so the v already means more than we imagine how will we live together means we have to find a lot of solutions we always work with this attitude of the comments so comments mean we have a certain resource it means the swiss alps for instance we have meadows up to 2000 meters and it's only for 300 sheeps every summer so a farmer cannot come and say yeah i would like to have 50 more sheeps because the research is not large enough they have to deal and discuss you have to find a different solution in the future we have to respect how much resources we have everybody think it's about euros pounds what or dollars whatever no it's more about what is the value of this landscape one of our installation is outside it's a little urban model out of bricks but they are out of clay that means the rain will destroy it and in the end it will be a little hill of clay and in between from now to the end of the biennale we will have a little forest on top and all these plants are invasive species due to climate change there are more capable to adapt they are coming from all over the world they are not native plants we invited them because we changed the climate and now they are our guests for us this is not the problem that's reality in the other exhibition we show the ice melt is the last 200 thousand years and it's growing it's shrinking we look at sea alps now there is only a little bit of glaciers left and we show in this exhibition that switzerland will be a completely new landscape in 2050 that means more than 2000 lakes will arrive two thousand small lakes larger lakes due to the climate change our environment changed a lot in the last two three decades today you have to be more critical and we have to take responsibility on the regional or smaller scale what is our perception of what is our idea of a new landscape [Music] you
