In partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Holcim developed the Biodiversity Indicator Reporting System (BIRS). The purpose of the methodology is to measure biodiversity at our sites and improve our actions to restore it. By measuring biodiversity we can manage it better, and ensure a positive impact on nature in our sites.
In 2023, we completed the BIRS training in 7 countries in all our regions, giving our teams globally the tools they need to deploy it. BIRS will help us achieve our biodiversity targets and make a measurable positive impact at all of our sites. Our quarries in Canada were one of the sites for the BIRS training.
